2019 Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche in Hamburg - A visit in the name of climate and environmental protection
Live To Love: Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche came to northern Germany at the beginning of May as a committed environmentalist and animal rights activist. The visit under the umbrella of Live To Love has left a lasting impression on many. Stations included the Wilhelm-Gymnasium, the children's hospice Sternenbrücke and the Ark Warder.
Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche attended a lively exchange with school director Martin Richter, philosophy teacher Joachim Trucks, and Nele Brebeck from Fridays for Future at a panel discussion in Hamburg's Wilhelm-Gymnasium entitled "Environmental Protection". He showed connections and dependencies that affect all our lives on earth. He addressed the students in the audience as the "Leaders of the Future," declaring that we all need to review and change our consumption habits to address the climate crisis.
In the afternoon Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche returned to the children's hospice Sternenbrücke after his visit in 2017. He expressed his special appreciation for her work to founder Ute Nerge and her team, and made a tour of the house and the grounds. The visitor from the Himalayas was impressed by the memorial garden, where a light is installed for each of the brave children who are no longer with us.
Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche planted a gingko tree in recognition of the special support and attention that the hospice has given to so many critically ill children. He wished everyone in this place a deep awareness of the appreciation of all life. The violinist Jansen Folkers accompanied the moving ceremony of tree planting with a performance of his art.
Another highlight of his stay was the visit to the Ark Warder in Schleswig-Holstein - a place for rare and endangered domestic breeds. In an extensive area created with much love and knowledge, the animals find optimal conditions adapted to their particular nature.
The director, Prof. Dr. Dr. Frölich led through the extensive grounds and explained the concept of the park. Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche was able to gather many suggestions for the planned expansion of the animal protection project "Live To: Rescue" in Ladakh.
Together with the team from Live To Love, Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche planted a sycamore maple in the landscape park. We thank Prof. Dr.Dr. Frölich and his team for the warm hospitality!
May all the wishes that were anchored with the tree plantings be fulfilled!
