Live To Love pirates have mutinied against plastic - July 2017

During our action in July, the Live To Love pirates have mutinied against plastic and boarded the Elbe beach at Övelgönne on Sunday. In spite of Hamburg´s foul weather, many children and young people cleaned with great enthusiasm and wonderful comments the bank and the beach area of plastic and other rubbish.

The adults also participated diligently in the clean-up and informed themselves at our well-visited information both about plastic prevention, alternatives to plastic and the work and aims of Live To Love.

After an hour and a half, the full garbage bags were scaled at the extra-built ship scale by our pirate-captain.

In total over 40 kg of waste were gathered, of which almost 2,5 kg of micro plastic which is particularly dangerous for fish and birds and that was screened patientiently out of the sand.
As the name „micro“ already indicates this task not only requires a lot of concentration, but al lot of commitment. For this great result, all children were rewarded with a gift from the big treasurebox and a little ship made of cork.

At the end of the day, everyone was able to enjoy some delicious homemade food and drink and left for home with the satisfying feeling of having done something useful.

Dear children and youngsters: it was just great with you

The Elbe-Wochenblatt has published an article about the action. More you can read here,
