Our day at the SolLuna Animal Sanctuary 🐾
With a lot of heart and energy, eleven members of our team were hard at work today: We painted fences, tended to the meadows, refilled straw bags, chopped up storm-felled wood, and learned from Irmi and the animals what’s currently going on.
What really moves us are the animals and the people who care for them day in and day out.
Irmi bears an enormous responsibility. She currently cares for around 30 stray dogs - many of them from Romania. Almost all of them are traumatized and fearful and, in addition to care, need above all patience, psychological empathy, and trust.

It was particularly touching to see how caring the animals are toward one another: When a dog named Theo had an epileptic seizure this morning, a female dog from his pack didn’t leave his side for the rest of the day. Even a horse with tendonitis is accompanied by a fellow horse that is otherwise a lover of freedom.
Many animals suffer from the consequences of their past, from age-related illnesses, or from the increasing prevalence of food allergies. Last year alone, SolLuna incurred approximately €20,000 in veterinary costs.
That is why, in addition to active support and in-kind donations, monetary donations are also invaluable. Every contribution helps care for this special place and its residents.
